A high-tech coating system developed with NASA technology

The NASA developed a High-performance coating system for use in the Space Shuttle, so as to protect its crew, the sensitive instruments and the space ship it self from the extreme temperatures of outer space. This solution guaranteed the maximum insulation required.

Furthermore the new material had to withstand the blistering heat and high vibrations created by friction throughout the Space Shuttle’s re-entry  into the earth’s atmosphere.

As the result of long-standing and a painstaking research program, including testing and trials in NASA laboratories and then finally in outer space, as a result NASA made the final choice for the use of special tiles, composed of Vacuum-Ceramic-Bubbles of silicon, as a covering for the outer panels as a protective heat shield for the Space Shuttle. This protective shield had to withstand extreme temperature differences ranging from minus 80° C to plus 1'200° C and constitutes until today the heat shield (Thermo-Shield) of all US- space shuttles.
